Maynooth Cycling Campaign is a core member of Cyclist.ie, the Irish Cycling Advocacy Network and is affiliated to the European Cycling Federation.

Hi Irene,
It depends what sort of cycling you want to do – whether you want a bicycle for normal everyday journeys wearing ordinary clothes or you want a road bike to cover ‘long’ distances wearing lycra. You may also want a bike for occasional longer distances than everyday journeys. If you decide what you want, any good bike shop should be able to advise you what would suit within your budget. If you are not sure, a second hand bike might be a good starting point. If you are an employee, depending on your employer, you may to able to purchase a bike under the Bike to Work scheme so good luck with your shopping.

Hi. I don’t suppose you would be interested in widening your remit to include all of North Kildare? As a regional grouping, you may have more influence than currently. I am based in Celbridge and would be interested in being involved in such a grouping.

While we are centred in Maynooth, we have made submission on the Royal Canal and Grand Canal (Arthurs Way). We have also established links with Naas through the Naas Neighbourhood Greenways and have made representations to councillors in the Leixlip-Celbridge municipal district so we take an interest in more than just Maynooth. Maynooth Cycling Campaign was started in the university by staff and students, some who lived in Celbridge so you will be more than welcome to join us.
As stated on the website, we get together on the third Monday of the month. Unfortunately, we just met last Monday so it will be November before we meet again but if you would like to follow us on twitter it will keep you abreast of things. Kildare County Council have concocted an outrageous plan to run a link road to the proposed Maynooth bypass (The Moor) right through the centre of Moyglare Hall which is a residential estate. It will be open to all traffic and vulnerable road users with no protections of any kind offered to the latter. The traffic volumes could amount to a Rail Park scenario multiplied by ten. I would urge the Maynooth Cycling Campaign to take an active and public interest in the proposals before they become a reality.

I am looking for support for #ChangeOurStreets – a campaign to reallocate space for walking and cycling for physical distancing. The measures include filtered permeability to prevent rat running which would lead into a consideration of blocking through traffic at Moyglare Hall.
